McGrath-Knapp Naval Architects Ltd. was established in St. John’s, NL, in 2006 by two entrepreneurial naval architects to provide marine engineering and design services to the Atlantic region. The proximity to major North American and European markets, access to state of the art ocean research facilities and the region’s tradition and experience with shipping, fishing and boatbuilding provided the ideal opportunity for the founders of McGrath-Knapp.

The co-founders, Christian Knapp and Robert McGrath, share a common interest in reinvigorating local and regional boat building techniques through combining their training and experience with sound marine engineering & naval architecture principles. The intent was to supplement the existing small boat and yacht building industry through the establishment of a new engineering based naval architecture company with an expertise in composites design. Currently McGrath-Knapp has offices located within the NRC/CNRC- IOT facilities in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Our design philosophy is to provide our clients with practical, safe and creative designs on time and within the expected budget.
